Summary and Detail Data Components

There are 2 types of data components. One consumes summary level data, these components include the MeasureBox, Table, Chart, Multiple Selection Chart, and Map. These components only query final number(s) needed from the source data and not detail rows. Since it uses summary level data, you will need to select the measure(s) and  the calculations needed during the component creation process.

The other type of data component is what most people are familiar with, these data components query the detail records of the source object. Since it receives every qualified record, you will have to select all the source fields needed in the component creating process. These components include the List, List Detail, and Map components. The Map is the only component that can utilize both types of data.

One of the most common questions asked about summary data components is how to display the detail data behind the number. In order to do this, you can utilize a List component to interact with summary data components to show the detail rows. For details, please check out Interaction | Metadata Interaction | Send a List example of the tutorial.
